Michael Thompson is Mercer’s Voluntary Benefits Practice Leader in the Southeast U.S., headquartered out of Atlanta, GA.  Mr. Thompson’s primary responsibility is to further clients’ and consultants’ awareness of the strategic importance of voluntary benefits and to steward accelerated growth of the voluntary segment.  Mr. Thompson has more than 25 years of experience in the insurance segment with expertise in all lines of distribution.  He has a proven record of strategic planning and tactical execution, both domestically and internationally, which has consistently improved the financial, marketing, and operational performance of the organizations with which he has worked.

His previous roles include Global Vice President of voluntary benefits for AIG’s’ Life Companies out of Hong Kong; Global Vice President of Corporate development for Aon’s Life Companies; Managing Director of Aon’s Latin American Life & Health Companies; and Senior Vice President of United Family Life Insurance Company, an Assurant Company.  Mr. Thompson served as an expatriate executive around the world for nearly 14 years and holds a BA in Economics from the University of Georgia and an MBA from Georgia State University.
